Monte San Pietro is the ideal place for grapevine growing and for excellent wines production. Ever since the XVIth century the vineyards in San Chierlo were processed by the Berghetti family -who were experienced winegrowers yet. For this reason, Angelo Lambertini founded the "Tenuta Bonzara" in 1963. Some important factors, as Angelo's great knowledge in wine production and his strong managerial abilities, allowed him to create one of the most competitive companies of the province. His son Francesco, sharing the same passion for vine culture, succeeded him and let this Company achieve various awards of undisputed worth.
The Tenuta Bonzara is currently supported by the great oenological expertise of Mr. Lorenzo Landi. Mr. Landi is one of the most important Italian top vine originators. The vineyard has been initiated to a progressive yield reduction by "short pruning" and "thinning out" methods. At Tenuta Bonzara winery a special oenological valorization has been developed - in order to enhance the vines varietal characteristics by extracting the best aromas and fragrances. By these procedures the winery has become tremendously active in the promotional campaign supporting the "Colli Bolognesi (Bologna hills) wines" identity preservation; the winery has therefore decided to become partner of the Consorzio Vini doc dei Colli Bolognesi - a necessary step that has further strengthened the Company image to the eyes of any attentive consumer.
Our winemaking activity is now working together with a farm holiday activity and a most recent eventsorganization. Right in the middle of Tenuta Bonzara there is a small restructured hamlet. The special location of our winery - on a hill at about 450-500 meters above sea level - plunged into the green nature of Bologna Hills, makes it a special place where you can spend a few hours or even a few days: you will immediately feel at ease and relax thanks to the surrounding nature. The recent restructuring and enlargement of the winery has allowed us to create a very big salon, where we organize celebration dinners, meetings and congresses for a maximum capacity of 200 people.
